The conversation aimed to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, aligning with the interests of both nations’ citizens. This dialogue follows a prior meeting in May between UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly, which had a focus on strengthening parliamentary collaboration.

In March, the UAE welcomed the announcement regarding the successful conclusion of peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. While the long-standing conflict over the Karabakh region has diminished, the formal signing of the peace agreement is still pending. Azerbaijan has indicated that a change to Armenia’s constitution, which it believes makes implicit claims to its territory, is a condition for its agreement to the peace deal.

Armenia, on the other hand, denies these claims. Nevertheless, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has consistently stated in recent months that the country’s founding document needs to be replaced and has proposed a referendum to facilitate this change. As of now, no date has been set for such a referendum.
