The seminar is organized in collaboration with the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). During their visit, delegates from Invest in Sharjah are engaging with officials from the Tokyo and Osaka chambers of commerce and innovation, as well as senior executives from leading Japanese corporations.

As part of their activities, the Invest in Sharjah team is holding discussions in Tokyo and Osaka with Creww, an organization that supports entrepreneurship through a smart platform, and with Plug and Play Japan, which focuses on driving innovation within large companies. These discussions aim to explore potential joint projects and access Japanese financing models.

H.E. Mohamed Juma Al Musharrkh, CEO of Invest in Sharjah, emphasized that the visit underscores Sharjah’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships in future-focused sectors with leading economies like Japan. He stated, “Our visit reaffirms Sharjah’s continued commitment to fostering strategic partnerships in future-focused sectors with the world’s leading economies.”

Al Musharrkh further explained that the “Discover Sharjah” seminar is a valuable opportunity to identify new collaboration prospects in technology and advanced manufacturing. He noted the importance of understanding Japanese innovation ecosystems and business accelerators, expressing confidence in building on the existing foundation of cooperation with long-term projects and strategic investments.

The seminar also emphasizes Sharjah’s strategic advantages as a gateway for sustainable investment in Asia. It highlights the competitive incentives available in Sharjah’s free zones, which are designed to attract investments across various key sectors. Participants are discussing innovative collaboration opportunities and strategies to streamline licensing processes to facilitate capital flow in a stable, business-friendly environment that supports sustainability and long-term growth.

This visit reflects the enduring relations between the UAE and Japan, which began with the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972 and have been strengthened by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). In 2024, trade between Japan and Sharjah reached AED 1.035 billion, with 90 Japanese companies operating in Sharjah’s free zones and 19 on the mainland. Additionally, bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Japan exceeded $17.7 billion during the same period.
