India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, as well as Minister Anna Maria Bernini, on Friday. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in several vital sectors, including trade, investment, maritime security, technology, education, and culture. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29.

Jaishankar shared on social media platform X that the talks were productive, highlighting the review of bilateral cooperation and its advancement in various domains. He noted that they also exchanged views on current global developments, particularly in Europe, the Mediterranean, and West Asia. This partnership continues to evolve under the guidance of the agreed strategic plan between the leaders of both nations.
During the meeting, Jaishankar emphasized the significance of the Italy-India Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, which was formed during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18, 2024. He stated that the plan embodies their vision for deepening the bilateral strategic partnership.
The Minister also mentioned that the outcomes of this plan would be beneficial for both nations. He explained that the leaders directed their respective industries and educational institutions to collaborate on innovation and knowledge sharing. Jaishankar reiterated that the partnership is founded on shared democratic values, respect for cultures and civilizations, and a unified vision for a stable and prosperous world.
