COBCO, a battery materials joint venture formed by AL MADA and CNGR Advanced Materials, has entered into a strategic long-term supply agreement with Umicore, a global leader in circular materials technology. This agreement focuses on the delivery of precursor cathode active materials (pCAM) for electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

As part of the agreement, COBCO will provide high-performance NCM pCAM sourced from its newly commissioned production facility located in Jorf Lasfar, Morocco. These materials will be essential for Umicore’s cathode active material (CAM) production lines, supporting its international clientele while advancing sustainable mobility initiatives in Europe and beyond.
The partnership highlights the increasing efforts to establish a robust, transparent, and low-carbon battery value chain within the EMEA region. COBCO’s state-of-the-art plant is designed to operate under the highest environmental and quality standards, utilizing Morocco’s renewable energy resources to significantly lower the carbon footprint associated with its products.
Allen Luo, CEO of COBCO, stated that this agreement represents a significant milestone in the company’s goal to become a strategic supplier of low-carbon, high-quality battery materials to leading global players in electromobility. He expressed pride in contributing to Umicore’s commitments to responsible sourcing and circularity while securing critical battery materials production in Morocco.
The production lines commissioned in early 2025 are just the beginning of a larger industrial development program for COBCO. Alongside the NCM pCAM, the company is also expanding its offerings to include Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cathode materials and black mass recycling, creating a comprehensive and circular battery materials ecosystem capable of supporting a total capacity equivalent to 70 GWh. This capacity is sufficient to power over 1 million EVs each year.
