Headquartered in Milan, CCM is recognized globally for its high-quality designs and has collaborated with leading architects to shape functional and stylish airport environments. Industry experts highlight that as airports increasingly invest in automation, biometrics, and personalized services, terminal layouts must also adapt to these advancements. The traditional setup of check-in counters and static security zones is becoming outdated, necessitating a more integrated approach to reduce congestion and maximize space efficiency.

According to Zawya, David Lavorel, Chief Executive Officer of SITA, emphasized that this acquisition is not merely about expanding airports but about reimagining them. He noted that with CCM’s extensive design expertise, SITA can transform airport terminals to improve passenger flow and create smarter environments that adapt to the industry’s evolving needs. This approach aligns with the increasing focus on utilizing technology to enhance the travel experience.

The integration of CCM into SITA is expected to provide a unique “technology by design” capability, enabling a seamless connection from design to airport operations. Sergio Colella, President of SITA Europe, remarked on the importance of this collaboration, stating that it represents a significant shift where technology and design work in harmony to optimize airport spaces for greater capacity and flexibility.

CCM has been under the management of the Marinoni family for 35 years and has successfully designed and delivered terminal spaces in over 300 airports worldwide. With SITA’s expertise in passenger processing and AI-driven operations, the acquisition aims to provide airports with a comprehensive solution that combines cutting-edge technology with thoughtful design.

According to the SITA 2024 Air Transport IT Insights report, 63% of airports are prioritizing self-service options and biometrics. The report also indicates that IT spending in the sector has reached $8.9 billion as airports embrace automation and digitalization. However, these technological investments require physical infrastructure that supports them to truly alleviate congestion and enhance passenger movement.

Monica Oberti, appointed as interim CEO of CCM, highlighted the potential of the partnership, stating that it allows airports to no longer choose between efficiency and passenger experience. She believes that by combining smart technology with intelligent design, they can significantly improve airport operations and traveler satisfaction, paving the way for future developments in aviation.
