NBK Promotes Security Guidelines for Safe Use of Instant Payment Service “WAMD”

The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) is actively supporting the “Let’s Be Aware” banking awareness campaign, which was initiated by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) in partnership with local banks and the Kuwait Banking Association (KBA). This campaign aims to enhance financial literacy, promote financial inclusion, and educate customers from various segments of society about safe banking practices.

In line with this initiative, NBK is focusing on raising awareness about fraudulent schemes concerning the Instant Payment Service (WAMD). The bank highlights the necessity for customers to recognize these scams and follow crucial precautions to protect themselves from potential fraudulent transactions.

NBK warns that scammers often reach out to individuals, falsely claiming that they have mistakenly transferred money to their accounts via WAMD. These fraudsters typically pressure recipients to return the funds using payment links sent through WhatsApp, which are cleverly designed to gain access to victims’ bank accounts and steal their personal financial information.

The bank emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant and advises customers to avoid clicking on suspicious links or messages from unknown sources. It also stresses the need to verify the authenticity of communications before acting on them or making any financial transactions. Furthermore, NBK recommends customers regularly update their banking passwords to bolster security and mitigate the risk of unauthorized access or data breaches.

To ensure safe usage of WAMD, NBK urges customers to implement key security measures. These include verifying the beneficiary’s name and transaction amount before executing transfers, ensuring that the recipient’s contact number is saved in their phone, and confirming the legitimacy of the request, including the name and amount involved, prior to proceeding with any transaction.

NBK is dedicated to actively identifying new fraud tactics and equipping its customers with essential knowledge and clear guidance on prevention. The bank utilizes its social media platforms to share targeted awareness materials, empowering customers to remain vigilant and protect their financial security.

Leveraging its extensive communication capabilities, including its prominent digital channels, NBK aims to effectively disseminate the campaign’s messages to a broad audience, thereby reinforcing financial awareness and security. The “Let’s Be Aware” campaign is recognized as the largest financial awareness initiative in the region, focusing on critical topics such as fraud prevention, optimal banking service utilization, and fostering a culture of saving and investing.

As a leading financial institution in Kuwait, NBK actively participates in various initiatives to educate the community on banking-related matters. The bank also conducts comprehensive training programs for its employees, aimed at enhancing their expertise in fraud prevention and financial crime mitigation.
