NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration of its new international office in Dubai, UAE, on Tuesday. This strategic move is intended to strengthen NMDC’s global presence and support its vision of becoming a multinational mining powerhouse, as stated in a company release.

The office was officially inaugurated by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who oversees the Ministry of Steel and Heavy Industries, alongside HE Sunjay Sudhir, the Ambassador of India to the UAE. This new facility in Dubai will act as a crucial hub for NMDC, enabling the company to monitor developments in the mineral sectors across the MENA region, Africa, and Australia, including keeping track of regulatory changes and government policies.

The Dubai office will concentrate on identifying mineral assets, performing technical due diligence, and establishing connections with government bodies, business partners, and research institutions. By offering real-time market intelligence and timely decision support, the office is set to empower NMDC’s leadership to respond quickly to global opportunities. Furthermore, it aims to build a reliable network for confidential insights on peer companies and to explore collaborations in Mining Equipment and Technology Services (METS).

Amitava Mukherjee, CMD of NMDC, remarked that “Dubai represents a gateway to global opportunity.” He emphasized that with the establishment of this office, NMDC is prepared to redefine the mining landscape and revolutionize its approach to mineral development, thereby securing India’s position as a leader in the mining industry and driving innovation in resource utilization.

As part of its global mineral diversification strategy, NMDC is actively assessing acquisition opportunities across ten strategic mineral assets worldwide and is examining critical mineral block acquisitions in Africa, Australia, and South America. This initiative is aimed at enhancing NMDC’s presence in the global critical mineral value chain, with the Dubai office serving as a strategic nerve center to improve its agility and foresight in global expansion.
