E& UAE has introduced an autonomous drone-based system for inspecting telecom towers, powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This significant advancement aims to enhance telecom infrastructure management and operational safety across the UAE.

The new initiative integrates real-time data analytics, AI, and autonomous flight capabilities. This combination allows for quicker, safer, and more sustainable inspections of telecom towers. The launch follows the establishment of the Drones Operations Centre, which collaborates closely with the UAE Cyber Security Council and General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to improve unmanned traffic management and drone integration into national digital infrastructure.
These autonomous drones change how telecom infrastructure is monitored and maintained. The drones are controlled remotely from the Drones Operations Centre, where expert teams track flight progress, verify safety protocols, and ensure inspection accuracy in real time. Unlike conventional inspection methods, drones can maneuver through complex environments autonomously, promoting worker safety and operational efficiency.
AI technology enables the drones to instantly identify structural anomalies during inspections. This capability allows for proactive maintenance, preventing costly disruptions and prolonging asset lifespans. The drones also facilitate remote inspections of safety procedures and surveillance of unauthorized activities, contributing to a smarter and more secure network environment.
Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology & Information Officer of e& UAE, stated that the integration of autonomous drones demonstrates their commitment to innovating network operations for improved reliability, safety, and sustainability. He highlighted that AI-powered insights and real-time control enhance the safety and accuracy of telecom tower inspections, enabling data-driven decision-making that supports the UAE’s goals for smart and sustainable cities.
This initiative underscores e& UAE’s role as a trusted digital enabler, aligning with the country’s ambitions in technology-driven transformation and smart city development. The deployment of the Drones Operations Centre and its integration into national frameworks also emphasizes collaboration with regulatory partners to ensure compliance with air safety, cybersecurity, and operational integrity.
As the UAE continues to advance toward a digitally prepared ecosystem, the autonomous drone inspection initiative illustrates how innovation can significantly impact various sectors, communities, and the environment.
