If such a fee were to be implemented, it would not only increase transit expenses for oil shipments but could also lead to higher crude oil prices globally. Given that India is one of the largest importers of crude oil, any disruption or increased cost in the shipping route could have immediate implications for its energy market. The potential for rising shipping insurance costs and inflation could further exacerbate the situation for Indian consumers and businesses.
The Gulf region has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions, and even the withdrawal of the proposed fee does not eliminate the risks of increased oil prices, especially during periods of heightened conflict.
