Dubai moves forward with a solar battery project that fits with the UAE’s $6 billion plan for clean energy.

Dubai is going to build a solar plant with batteries to make sure there is always power. This project comes just one month after Abu Dhabi announced its own $6 billion plan to improve clean energy powers. The United Arab Emirates is moving forward with its big goals for renewable energy.

The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority PJSC says the new project will be part of the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This phase will have 1.6 gigawatts of photovoltaic power and 1 gigawatt of battery storage. This is the second solar project in the Emirates that will provide power around the clock. This solves a big problem that green energy sources often have: they need good weather to work.

The Dubai government, Dewa, is going to pick a company to build and run the new solar project. It should be ready between 2027 and 2029. According to their formal statement, the authority has hired Deloitte LLP to help them with this project. In Abu Dhabi, the state-owned company Masdar plans to build a 5.2-gigawatt solar project that will be able to store up to 1 gigawatt of power for backup power. The project is set to begin construction in 2027.
