This development is a significant milestone for sustainable construction in the region, as SmartCare CureAssure is the first of its kind to be evaluated for compliance with the Dubai Building Code (DBC). The approval from Dubai Municipality follows the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria AC564 for internal curing concrete admixtures.

In a region where concrete construction is prevalent, challenges related to embodied carbon and resource consumption are critical. SmartCare CureAssure addresses these issues by not only enhancing concrete strength and durability but also substantially reducing water usage. This product aligns with the region’s broader environmental and sustainability objectives.

Mohamed Amer, Managing Director of ICC MENA, expressed pride in supporting sustainable construction practices through the issuance of the ESR. He noted that by validating innovative systems like SmartCare CureAssure against stringent code requirements, ICC-ES contributes to a safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible future in construction, which aligns with the GCC’s long-term development goals.

This approval sets a strong precedent for the future integration of sustainable and innovative building systems throughout the region. By providing a credible pathway for new technologies to comply with rigorous building codes through third-party validation, ICC-ES unlocks opportunities for greener construction methods. This initiative encourages manufacturers, developers, and regulators to adopt innovative solutions that enhance resilience, environmental performance, and resource efficiency, ultimately fostering a more sustainable built environment in the GCC and beyond.

Joseph Eapen, CEO of Asian Paints International Private Ltd, commented on the achievement, highlighting it as a testament to their commitment to high-performance and sustainable solutions in the construction industry. He stated that having ICC-ES independently verify their system’s compliance with the DBC underscores their dedication to innovation and environmental stewardship.

The milestone reflects ICC-ES’s ongoing support in evaluating systems that address the evolving needs for building safety, sustainability, and performance in the MENA region and beyond. The issuance of ESRs facilitates technical validation for innovative materials, helping global manufacturers access markets while reducing risks and adhering to local building regulations.

The International Code Council is recognized globally as a leading source for model codes, standards, and solutions that ensure safe, affordable, and sustainable communities and buildings. More information about ICC MENA can be found at www.iccsafe.org/mena.
