Saudi Arabia has launched an ambitious tourism strategy aimed at establishing the Kingdom as a leading global travel destination, particularly for Asia-Pacific travelers. The strategy focuses on providing rich cultural experiences, regenerative luxury, and accessible travel, all while emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and the empowerment of women travelers. This initiative is part of the country’s efforts to transform its tourism landscape through historic reforms, premier events, and renowned Arabian hospitality.

At the 2025 Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Travel Mart in Istanbul, the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) presented its bold APAC Strategy, which emphasizes a transformative approach that combines innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. By engaging more deeply with Asian markets and joining influential bodies like PATA, Saudi Arabia aims to enhance its tourism footprint and foster collaboration across borders, utilizing data-driven insights for traveler-focused product development.
Strategic partnerships are central to Saudi Arabia’s tourism vision, with the collaboration with PATA symbolizing a commitment to co-create impactful tourism experiences. The STA is dedicated to changing perceptions about the Kingdom, particularly regarding safety and accessibility for women and solo travelers. By participating in PATA, the STA can access valuable industry insights and collaborate with leading tourism stakeholders, thereby strengthening Saudi Arabia’s tourism brand in the Asia-Pacific region.
A key focus of Saudi Arabia’s tourism strategy is safety and inclusivity, as evidenced by the Kingdom’s 14th position in the 2025 Numbeo Safety Index. In 2024, Madinah was recognized as the world’s safest destination for solo female travelers. Recent policy changes have also allowed women to undertake religious pilgrimages like Umrah independently, enhancing travel accessibility and personal freedom. To cater to women, the tourism offerings now include wellness retreats, heritage tours, luxury shopping, and desert adventures.
Saudi Arabia is also promoting its rich cultural heritage, with eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and over 10 000 archaeological landmarks, allowing visitors to engage deeply with history and tradition. The Aseer Highlands provide a seasonal escape with cooler temperatures and lush landscapes, contrasting the Kingdom’s arid deserts. The emphasis on hospitality and cultural preservation ensures that every interaction with travelers feels welcoming and meaningful.
Moreover, the Kingdom is hosting a variety of world-class events to draw international attention. Events like the MDLBEAST music festival and the Esports World Cup are helping to establish Saudi Arabia as a vibrant hub for sports, culture, and entertainment. Future mega-events, including the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2034, are expected to further enhance the country’s appeal to global travelers while stimulating local economies and job creation.
At the forefront of this tourism transformation is the Red Sea, which is home to one of the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism projects led by Red Sea Global. The KAUST Reefscape Restoration Project aims to rehabilitate 100 hectares of coral reef around Shushah Island, supporting diverse marine life and setting new standards for eco-tourism. The region has already welcomed luxurious resorts, including the Six Senses Southern Dunes and the St. Regis Red Sea Resort, with plans for more developments in the coming years.
The APAC Strategy of the Saudi Tourism Authority showcases a commitment to balancing cultural authenticity and responsible development. By enhancing safety for travelers and promoting sustainable luxury, Saudi Arabia is poised to attract a diverse range of visitors, from solo female explorers to families and digital nomads. The Kingdom’s expanding portfolio of international events and eco-friendly initiatives positions it as one of the most exciting new destinations for the Asia-Pacific market.
Saudi Arabia is redefining global tourism with its dynamic APAC strategy, offering authentic cultural encounters, empowering travel experiences, and world-class luxury. As the Kingdom continues to engage with APAC travelers, it is ready to share its rich stories, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality with the world.
