Ethiopian Airlines Launches New Passenger Service to Sharjah

Ethiopian Airlines, recognized as Africa’s largest network operating carrier, has announced the commencement of a new passenger service connecting Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Addis Ababa, effective June 1, 2025. This new route aims to enhance travel convenience and foster trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Africa and the Middle East.

The launch of the service was celebrated in a vibrant event attended by notable dignitaries, including H.E. Sheikh Khalid Isam Al Qassimi, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation – Sharjah, and H.E. Oumer Hussien, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the UAE. Other attendees included Mr. Solomon Begashaw, Area Manager, Ethiopian Airlines (UAE), and Mrs. Rahel Assefa, Vice President – Marketing, Ethiopian Airlines Group, among officials from Sharjah Government and Ethiopian Airlines.

The new route will operate four times a week, providing travelers with access to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive global network. Mr. Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, expressed delight at the new service, highlighting its potential to boost investment, tourism, and socio-economic ties between the UAE and Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines has a strong presence in Sharjah through its cargo services, known for the city’s rich history and vibrant business environment. With the introduction of passenger flights, the airline aims to cater to both business and leisure travelers, promising a seamless journey supported by state-of-the-art facilities and top-notch customer service.

During the launch event, a lucky draw added excitement, with three winners selected for prizes, including a Business Class ticket, an Economy Class ticket, and a collectible die-cast model of an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft.

Sharjah, known as the third-largest emirate in the UAE, now becomes Ethiopian Airlines’ second passenger destination in the country. The emirate is celebrated for its cultural significance and serves as an industrial and educational hub, providing strategic access to international markets.

As a rapidly growing destination for adventure and eco-tourism, Sharjah offers opportunities in hospitality, leisure, and other travel-related sectors. Ethiopian Airlines has established itself as a leader in the aviation industry, operating flights to over 160 destinations worldwide and emphasizing passenger comfort and sustainability through its modern fleet.
