In a groundbreaking move to enhance forensic science within the United Arab Emirates, the Sharjah Police General Command has launched the country’s first professional diploma specifically aimed at training and certifying forensic fingerprint experts. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in improving the quality of criminal investigations across the nation.

The diploma has been developed in strategic partnership with the University of Sharjah, marking a significant milestone in specialized education for law enforcement. The launch ceremony featured notable figures from both security and academic sectors, including Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, and Professor Dr. Essam El Din Ajami, Director of the University of Sharjah. Other distinguished attendees included Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Khamis Al Othmani, Director of the Sharjah Police Academy, Brigadier Dr. Naji Mohammed Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence and Laboratories Department, and Dr. Asmaa Nassiri, Director of the University’s Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development.

This new diploma represents a transformative initiative by the Forensic Evidence Department, which aims to equip national talent with world-class expertise in fingerprint analysis. The program’s curriculum integrates theoretical foundations with practical training, incorporating the latest advancements in forensic technology and global best practices.

Major General bin Amer highlighted the importance of applied academic programs in enhancing police capabilities. He remarked that “this diploma is more than a training course — it’s a bridge between knowledge and action. It empowers our officers to perform with greater precision and professionalism, reinforcing the integrity of police work at every level.”

Dr. Essam El Din Ajami echoed this sentiment, praising the collaboration as a prime example of academic and security synergy. He noted that “this partnership aligns research and education with the real needs of the security sector. It not only supports evidence-based policing but also helps shape a new generation of experts ready to meet the nation’s evolving challenges.” He added that the university is committed to tailoring its educational offerings to the priorities of key national industries.
