UAE Confirms Four-Day Public Holiday for Eid Al Adha 2025

Eid Al Adha is approaching, and the UAE government has confirmed that residents will enjoy a four-day public holiday to celebrate. The break will commence with Arafat Day on Dhu Al Hijjah 9, followed by the festivities of Eid Al Adha on Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11, and 12.

Current predictions suggest that Arafat Day will fall on Thursday, June 5, 2025, while Eid Al Adha celebrations are expected to take place on Friday, June 6, Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8. These dates will be officially confirmed based on moon sightings closer to the holiday. The estimates are derived from predictions made by the International Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, based in the UAE.

If predictions prove inaccurate, any discrepancies are likely to be minimal, possibly only a day or two off, allowing residents ample time to plan their schedules.

The law governing public holidays in the UAE was updated earlier this year, permitting holidays linked to the Islamic Hijri calendar to shift if they coincide with the weekend. However, the law specifies that Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha holidays must remain unchanged, even if they fall over the weekend.

As a result, while the holiday is anticipated to overlap with the weekend, it will not be adjusted to ensure it falls solely on weekdays. The law states, “With the exception of Eid holidays, the Cabinet may – pursuant to a resolution it issues – transfer any of the public holidays referred to in Article (1) of this Resolution to the beginning or end of the week.”

Although there will be no additional days off for Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha if they land on a weekend, residents may benefit from extra days off if Islamic New Year, the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, or National Day occur on a weekend in the future. The national resolution also allows each emirate the freedom to introduce additional public holidays as they see fit.
