The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has begun accepting applications for its new multiple-entry visa, known as the ‘blue visa’. This visa is valid for 180 days, or six months, from the date of entry. It offers a 10-year residency to individuals who have made significant contributions in specific fields recognized by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). The designated categories include environmental protection, sustainability, and clean and renewable energy.

Originally announced in 2024, the blue visa has officially launched this year. Eligible individuals can apply for it whether they are currently residing in the UAE or located abroad. According to reports from Gulf News, the visa is intended for distinguished individuals who have positively impacted the aforementioned fields, including scientists, researchers, investors, and entrepreneurs working in environmental disciplines.
The UAE is increasingly prioritizing sustainability, and the introduction of the blue visa aligns with the country’s broader commitment to these goals. The year 2024 marks the second consecutive Year of Sustainability in the emirate, reinforcing its dedication to environmental initiatives.
To apply for the blue visa, applicants can use the ICP’s smart services platform or mobile application. The application process involves several steps: filling in personal information, providing proof of work and achievements in the environmental sector, submitting a valid passport with at least six months of validity, paying the required fees, and submitting the application. Confirmation of the transaction will be sent via email.
For those applying from outside the UAE, such as from India or other countries, the application process officially opened on May 13, 2025. Required documents include a valid passport copy, a recent color photograph, and proof of eligibility for the blue visa. The online application form must be filled out, followed by uploading the necessary documents and paying the fees. The entire procedure is designed to be quick, taking just seven minutes, and the ICP stated that the process is completed within one working day once all documents are verified. The blue visa serves as an extension of the existing golden visa and also provides a six-month validity period, which is extendable.
