e& UAE has announced a significant advancement in its 5G network by testing the newly allocated 6 GHz and 600 MHz spectrum bands. This initiative, approved by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), aims to enhance the existing 5G infrastructure, enabling ultra-fast speeds of up to 10 Gbps and extending 5G coverage beyond 6 kilometers. These tests are expected to deliver transformative benefits for homes, businesses, and the broader digital economy in the UAE.

Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology Officer of e& UAE, emphasized the importance of these tests, stating, “Our customers rely on us for fast, dependable connectivity, and these tests show how we are shaping the future of 5G wireless in the UAE.” He highlighted the achievement of 10 Gbps with 6 GHz and extended coverage on 600 MHz as crucial milestones in paving the way for 5G-Advanced and the future of 6G.
Utilizing commercial-grade Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) for real-world applications, e& UAE is unlocking the potential of these new spectrum bands. This expansion will allow for seamless 8K UHD streaming, rapid downloads, and uninterrupted virtual reality experiences. The 600 MHz band will ensure reliable 5G connectivity in both urban and remote areas, promising consistent access for professional, entertainment, and communication needs.
The implications for businesses are equally promising, as the enhanced 5G capabilities will support cloud workflows, IoT, and AI-driven analytics. The 6 GHz band will provide high-speed broadband necessary for these applications, while the 600 MHz band will maintain stable coverage for industrial IoT and smart city projects. This combination is expected to boost operational efficiency across various sectors.
The TDRA’s 2024 spectrum allocation positions the UAE as a leader in the evolution of 5G technology. The 6 GHz band provides a 350 MHz bandwidth critical for high-capacity urban connectivity, while the 600 MHz band ensures comprehensive coverage and effective indoor penetration. These advancements are set to accelerate the UAE’s smart city initiatives and national digital transformation efforts.
According to a study by GSMA Intelligence, 5G is projected to contribute over US$ 610 billion to global GDP by 2030, with mid-band spectrum expected to account for approximately 65% of this economic value. This illustrates the essential role of mid-band spectrum in maximizing the socio-economic benefits of 5G technology. Local forecasts also suggest that the 6 GHz and 600 MHz bands will positively impact the UAE’s GDP as e& UAE continues its pioneering work in this area.
By integrating C-band, 6 GHz, and 600 MHz technologies, e& UAE is establishing a robust and future-proof 5G ecosystem. This strategic approach will foster smart city innovations, promote business growth, and ensure seamless nationwide connectivity for users across various sectors.
