The United Arab Emirates has announced plans to implement a smart traffic project in Albania. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to develop smart city infrastructure across the Balkan nation

The agreement for this ambitious project was revealed by Presight, a data analytics company under the Abu Dhabi-based technology group G42. The smart city project aims to utilize artificial intelligence and will be rolled out in 20 cities throughout Albania, with specific goals to reduce traffic congestion and improve emergency response times.
The formal signing of the agreement took place on Sunday in Tirana, the capital of Albania. It was attended by Dr. Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, the Emirati Minister for Industry and Advanced Technology, along with Ervin Hoxha, Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy. The event was also graced by the UAE’s President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama.
As part of the project, a command and control center will be established in Albania to manage the infrastructure effectively and oversee public service operations, especially aimed at minimizing travel times in urban areas. According to Presight’s announcement, the project is intended to enhance Albania’s sustainability and digital transformation efforts while also improving efficiency in public services.
Thomas Pramotedham, the CEO of Presight, praised Albania for taking on “one of Europe’s most ambitious smart nation transformations,” emphasizing the potential of leveraging AI to foster economic growth, enhance efficiency, and improve community well-being.
