IFZA Plants thousands of Mangrove Trees to Enhance UAE’s Ecosystem

In a significant step toward environmental sustainability, IFZA, Dubai’s vibrant free zone community, has collaborated with its partners to plant 30,000 mangrove trees. This initiative is part of IFZA’s ongoing commitment to ecosystem restoration through their GROW initiative, which includes 500 newly planted trees at the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary, an area noted for its biodiversity and importance in climate resilience.

The event saw participation from over 70 IFZA employees and partners, highlighting their support for the UAE’s ambitious goal of planting 1 billion trees by 2030. This effort is crucial for achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and aims to expand mangrove cover across the country. The initiative also aligns with the Mangrove Alliance for Climate (MAC) Strategy 2031, which was launched during COP29, further emphasizing the UAE’s dedication to combating climate change.

According to APN News, Jochen Knecht, CEO of IFZA, expressed that sustainability is central to their vision. He stated, “At IFZA, sustainability forms a core part of our vision. Mangroves play a powerful role in fighting climate change, and through our GROW initiative we are taking real steps to support the country’s long-term environmental goals.” This initiative not only addresses climate issues but also aims to foster awareness and community involvement in conservation efforts.

Participants gained insight into the vital roles mangroves play in carbon sequestration, coastal protection, and marine biodiversity. Each of the 500 newly planted saplings has been fitted with a GPS tracker, allowing for ongoing monitoring of their growth.

Mangrove trees are known for their ability to absorb greenhouse gases and create essential habitats for marine life. IFZA’s commitment to expanding these forests is in harmony with the UAE’s objectives of raising awareness and promoting community engagement in sustainability efforts. Through such initiatives, IFZA is setting an example of how businesses can contribute to a greener future.
