Sharjah Airport has officially launched its inaugural direct flights to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking a significant expansion of its travel destinations. Air Arabia will operate three scheduled weekly flights between Sharjah and Addis Ababa on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, utilizing an Airbus A320 for these routes. This development was celebrated during a ceremony attended by key officials, including Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, and Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia.

Accroding to WAM, in his remarks, Al Midfa highlighted that the new service to Addis Ababa emphasizes Sharjah Airport’s commitment to broadening its network across African cities and capitals. He noted that this initiative is designed to meet the increasing demand for both passenger and cargo travel between the UAE and Ethiopia. Al Midfa also pointed out the growth in economic, trade, and tourism ties between the two nations, which have seen a positive trend in recent years.

Ambassador Aklilu Kebede Erena echoed this sentiment, stating that the new route serves as a strategic bridge that enhances cultural and commercial ties between Ethiopia and the UAE. He emphasized that the flights will facilitate smoother passenger movement and foster greater exchanges between the two countries. Erena expressed optimism that this service would lead to increased cooperation in the aviation sector and hinted at the potential for daily flights in response to rising demand.

Additionally, Al Ali expressed his satisfaction with the launch, stating that the direct flights from Sharjah to Addis Ababa provide passengers with more convenient travel options, whether for business or leisure purposes. He reinforced Air Arabia’s commitment to offering affordable and reliable air travel while enhancing connectivity across its expanding network.
