The initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, focuses on tripling the number of app developers in Dubai by 2025 and supporting 100 new national projects for cutting-edge mobile applications. H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted that these efforts align with Dubai’s vision of becoming a global hub for the digital economy, as guided by directives from the UAE leadership.

In February 2024, the “Create Apps in Dubai” initiative gained further momentum with the conclusion of the app competition, which attracted more than 1,100 entries from 64 countries. Emirati participants contributed 70% of the submissions. Twelve finalists showcased their app ideas, with winners chosen across four categories, further enhancing Dubai’s reputation as a centre for smart application innovation.

The chamber also played a leading role in hosting Expand North Star 2024, the largest global event for startups and investors. Held in collaboration with Dubai World Trade Centre, the event welcomed over 1,800 startups and 1,200 investors managing assets exceeding $1 trillion. Sixty-five unicorn companies with a combined market value of more than $400 billion also participated. Twenty roadshows were conducted to promote Dubai’s digital ecosystem globally.

Additionally, the chamber signed 12 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with regional and international organisations to boost cooperation in digital sectors and supported businesses through its “Business in Dubai” platform. With 21 events hosted throughout the year, the chamber continued to nurture talent, strengthen partnerships, and foster a thriving business environment.

These efforts underscore Dubai’s commitment to driving the growth of its digital economy while empowering startups and entrepreneurs in key technology sectors.
