Ericsson and e& UAE, the leading telecommunications arm of e&, have entered into a three-year agreement aimed at expanding and evolving e& UAE’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN). Under this deal, Ericsson will supply its latest radio technology and advanced Ericsson Radio System portfolio to increase network capacity, enhance 5G coverage, and introduce 5G Advanced features.

In addition to expanding its network, e& UAE plans to modernize portions of its existing radio network to boost energy efficiency. This initiative aligns with the company’s sustainability strategy and its commitment to achieving net zero emissions as part of the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030.
The agreement positions e& UAE as a key player in the global 5G landscape by preparing its network for Advanced RAN Slicing and artificial intelligence-driven (AI-driven) RAN automation. This development will enable e& UAE to continue providing top-tier 5G services to its customers while paving the way for innovative 5G use cases for both consumers and enterprises.
Moreover, this partnership marks a significant milestone in the commercial rollout of Ericsson’s 5G Advanced features in the region. This includes the Reduced Capability (RedCap) and Critical Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, making it the first RedCap commercial agreement in the Middle East and Africa. The initial implementation of these technologies occurred last year between the two companies.
Marwan Bin Shakar, Acting Chief Technology and Information Officer at e& UAE, stated that the agreement embodies a shared vision for digital transformation and showcases their commitment to maintaining a leading-edge 5G network that provides exceptional services to consumers and enterprises. He emphasized that by leveraging Ericsson’s latest technology, they are ensuring their network is future-ready and aligned with their Net Zero pledge through improved energy efficiency.
Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, noted that their partnership with e& reflects a mutual focus on enhancing 5G capabilities in the region. She highlighted that this agreement will enable e& UAE to expand and modernize its radio access network with the latest Ericsson Radio System products and solutions, thereby improving connectivity and meeting the evolving demands of their customers.
