In a bid to promote human rights awareness and protect the rights of domestic workers, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) recently organized an awareness workshop for staff at domestic worker recruitment centres. This event took place at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) headquarters in Sharjah and targeted employees of the “Tadbeer” centres.

The workshop featured a presentation by Fatima Al Hosani, the Head of the Awareness and Education Section at the NHRI. She provided an overview of the Institution’s mandate and its responsibilities. Joining her were Abdulazeez Al Obthani, the Head of the International and Regional Organisations Section, and Maytha Al Shamsi, the Project Coordinator at the Strategic Communications Department. The session focused on the rights of domestic workers in the UAE and emphasized the crucial role that employers play in safeguarding these rights.
Attendees actively participated in the workshop, which included open discussions and a variety of questions. The goal was to strengthen awareness among “Tadbeer” staff regarding their responsibilities in creating a fair, respectful, and dignified working environment. This session also offered an opportunity for staff to share their challenges and have their inquiries addressed, reflecting NHRI’s commitment to fostering a culture of human rights across institutions and society.
This initiative is part of a series of ongoing awareness sessions and activities conducted by the NHRI to enhance understanding among “Tadbeer” centre staff nationwide about the rights of domestic workers.
The NHRI was established under Federal Law No. (12) of 2021 as an independent entity with financial and administrative autonomy. Its mission is to promote and protect human rights and freedoms in accordance with the UAE Constitution, relevant laws, and international conventions.
