Dubai Metro Updates Station Names Amid Expansion Plans

The Dubai Metro, a vital transportation network for hundreds of thousands of daily riders, is undergoing significant changes in its station names. These updates are crucial for passengers to avoid confusion and ensure they reach their destinations on time, as the renaming process is linked to commercial naming rights agreements facilitated by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Since the initiation of the Naming Rights project in 2008, the RTA has allowed major brands to sponsor or rename stations in long-term partnerships. Staying informed about the old and new station names is essential for both residents and visitors navigating the city’s evolving transport landscape.

The Red Line has seen several notable name changes, including Life Pharmacy, which was previously known as UAE Exchange and was renamed on May 5, 2025. Another example is Jebel Ali, which will be renamed to National Paints starting July 1, 2025, after previously being known as Nakheel Harbour and Tower before its last name change on May 18, 2020. The list continues with other stations, highlighting the dynamic nature of the Metro’s naming conventions.

Furthermore, the upcoming Blue Line, scheduled to open on September 9, 2029, will enhance the network by adding 14 new stations, increasing the total to 67 metro stations. This extension will include 9 elevated stations and 5 underground stations, covering a total length of 30 kilometers, with the first station named Emaar Properties.
