A landmark parliamentary session is scheduled to occur in Abu Dhabi on Monday, where Saqr Ghobash, the Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), will host Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament. This session marks a historic moment as it is the first visit by a sitting European Parliament President to the Gulf region, underscoring the strengthening strategic ties between the UAE and the European Union.

The visit follows an official invitation from the FNC and comes at a significant time in UAE–EU relations, particularly with ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The session will take place in the FNC’s Zayed Hall and aims to bring together senior ministers, EU diplomats, and officials to enhance parliamentary cooperation and align positions on various regional and global issues.
Additionally, the FNC will host the 18th meeting of GCC parliamentary heads during this session, with Metsola participating in discussions aimed at furthering GCC–EU relations. This gathering is expected to foster greater collaboration between the two regions, reflecting their mutual interests and goals in addressing contemporary challenges.
