UAE Cybersecurity Council Responds to Cyber Attacks on 634 Entities

The Cybersecurity Council of the Government of the United Arab Emirates has announced that national cyber systems successfully dealt with cyber attacks targeting 634 governmental and private entities. These attacks aimed to leak data from vital and strategic sectors across the country, applying the best global practices in this critical field.

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, the head of the Cybersecurity Council, informed the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that a known threat actor, identified as “rose87168,” claimed to have breached the Oracle Cloud platform. This breach reportedly led to the exposure of nearly 6 million customer records worldwide, including sensitive user password data. Al Kuwaiti noted that an estimated 140,000 entities globally may have been affected, with 634 of those located in the UAE, which includes 30 governmental and 13 private entities, along with additional organizations.

The Cybersecurity Council stated that emergency cyber systems have been activated in coordination with relevant authorities to maintain the security of the nation’s cyberspace and enhance protection against any intrusion attempts or threats. The council urged all governmental and private institutions to strengthen their electronic protection systems and improve their cyber readiness while reporting any suspicious activities that may target their digital systems.

Emphasizing the need for caution, the council highlighted the importance of adopting best security practices to combat increasing cyber threats, particularly as hacking and fraud tools evolve into various forms.
