Astronomers from the UAE have played a crucial role in confirming the discovery of Comet SWAN25F. On April 5, 2025, the Al-Khatim Astronomical Observatory in Abu Dhabi captured images of the comet, which is still undergoing the confirmation process. The observations made by the UAE astronomers will assist in accurately determining the comet’s orbit.

The comet, which was discovered just days prior, has not yet received a permanent name or number. The images taken by the Abu Dhabi team have been submitted to the International Astronomical Union and are currently included in their observation database. Notably, these are the only Arab observations recorded in the database to date.
Currently, Comet SWAN25F has a brightness of 12th magnitude, which makes it visible only through a telescope. In the captured images, the comet appears as a large dot against a backdrop of stars, which are displayed as lines due to the comet’s rapid movement. The image sequence consists of eight individual pictures, each taken over the course of one minute, totaling eight minutes of observation time, as noted by the International Astronomical Centre.
