The UAE has made remarkable progress in clean energy, housing, and infrastructure sectors, according to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI). The country’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation is driving these advancements, as highlighted by Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, in an update shared by Gulf Today.
In the energy sector, the UAE continues its push towards clean and renewable energy. Minister Al Mazrouei said the country is reducing reliance on fossil fuels while increasing renewable energy’s role in the national energy mix. Currently, the UAE produces 6 GW of renewable energy and 5.6 GW of nuclear energy. Looking ahead, the UAE plans to invest an additional Dhs500 billion over the next 30 years to achieve climate neutrality.
The housing sector has also seen significant strides under the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme. Since its launch in 1999, the programme has issued over 90,000 housing support decisions worth nearly Dhs60 billion. In the past three years alone, nearly 13,000 housing support decisions were made, amounting to Dhs10 billion. The “Manzli” bundle, a service under the programme, has simplified processes for citizens, cutting down paperwork and reducing waiting times.
In infrastructure, investments between 2018 and 2023 reached Dhs11.8 billion. This includes over 3,000 federal buildings such as healthcare and educational facilities, as well as roads, dams, and waterways. Federal road and infrastructure projects accounted for Dhs5.18 billion, while Dhs6.62 billion went towards government buildings.
The UAE is also making waves in the maritime and logistics sectors. The country will host the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in 2025 and has launched the “UAE Blue Pass Platform” to advance shipping technology. The UAE ranks highly in global logistics performance, holding the seventh spot worldwide in 2023. It also leads globally in air transport infrastructure quality and ranks fifth in road quality.
Additionally, the Ministry’s Bureaucracy Zero Programme has streamlined government services, eliminating 745,000 procedures and saving 21 million hours of customers’ time. This has boosted customer satisfaction to 91 per cent.
These achievements highlight the UAE’s strategic vision of balancing urban development with environmental protection, strengthening its position as a global leader in clean energy, housing, and infrastructure innovation.
