The transportation landscape in the UAE is poised for a significant change with the potential introduction of Seagliders, a high-speed over-water transport mode. According to the Founder and CEO of Regent Craft, Billy Thalheimer, these all-electric vehicles could be integrated into the UAE’s transportation network as early as next year.

Seagliders operate using a wing-in-ground-effect technology and can travel dock-to-dock over water routes. They combine the speed of an aircraft with the operational costs and accessibility of a boat, making them an affordable alternative to traditional taxis. Reports indicate that a trip on the 12-seat Seaglider between Abu Dhabi Marina and Dubai Marina could cost passengers just AED165, or approximately $45. Testing of the prototype is expected to commence this summer, with the vehicle slated for delivery by late 2026 or early 2027.
These innovative vehicles are designed to cover service routes of up to 300 kilometers using current battery technology, with the capability to extend that range to 800 kilometers once next-generation batteries are developed. The introduction of Seagliders is expected to revolutionize travel in the UAE, allowing passengers to reach their destinations in mere minutes while benefiting from local support and investment for global expansion. This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and Regent Craft during the recent DRIFTx event.
