EDGE Secures $2.45 Billion Naval Contract with Kuwait Ministry of Defence

ABU DHABI – EDGE, a prominent advanced technology and defence group, has announced a significant defence contract valued at AED9 billion (approximately US$2.45 billion) with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence. This contract involves the supply of FALAJ 3 62-metre missile boats and represents the largest naval shipbuilding export deal in the region, as well as one of the highest-value naval export agreements globally.

As the prime contractor, EDGE will oversee the entire programme, which encompasses the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the vessels. In addition, the company will provide Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS). EDGE’s commitment extends to supplying ammunition for the vessels, showcasing its comprehensive capabilities in the defence sector.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), which is EDGE Group’s naval arm and the leading shipbuilder in the UAE, has been appointed as the build subcontractor for this programme. Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating that it strengthens long-term defence ties between Kuwait and the UAE. He noted that the deal brings advanced vessels into regional service and reflects EDGE’s rapid industrial and engineering advancements.

The FALAJ 3-class missile boat has already been chosen by the UAE Navy, with the first vessel, ALTAF, set to be formally commissioned into service by February 2025. This operational deployment highlights the vessel’s proven capabilities in regional waters. With the new agreement, the advanced 62-metre vessels will be customized to meet Kuwait’s operational needs, providing enhanced performance, advanced combat systems, and improved capabilities for littoral defence operations.
