The UAE Media Council announced that it will provide support to content creators by offering a three-year exemption from permit fees. This initiative is part of a broader effort to regulate, empower, and stimulate growth within the media sector, building upon the Media Regulation Law and its Executive Regulation issued last year.

A key feature of the new system includes the implementation of an age rating system designed to prevent children and adolescents from accessing “inappropriate” content. Additionally, the Council is developing a new policy for licensing digital news platforms, which will establish guidelines to enhance credibility, ensure adherence to journalistic standards, and promote responsible practices within a balanced legal framework.

Violators of these regulations may face warnings and fines of up to Dh1 million, with penalties doubling to Dh2 million for repeated offenses. The Council may also enforce temporary closures of up to six months or permanent closures, alongside the revocation of licenses or permits.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, emphasized that the new system transforms the regulation and development of the media sector by combining updated legislation, comprehensive media services, and policies that aim to enhance efficiency and sustainable growth.

Furthermore, the system prioritizes Emirati talent and creative projects as part of the national media strategy, offering fee exemptions for several media services to support local producers, writers, and creatives. This initiative encourages the creation of content that reflects the national identity.
