Abu Dhabi’s Space42 to Launch MENA’s First Earth Observation Satellite Manufacturing Hub

Abu Dhabi’s Space42 is preparing to establish the Middle East and North Africa’s (MENA) first earth observation satellite manufacturing hub. This initiative follows the opening of the region’s first High Altitude Platform Stations manufacturing center by its subsidiary, Mira Aerospace, in Abu Dhabi.

These efforts are part of a broader plan to enhance the UAE’s Earth Observation (EO) Space Program, which aims to develop capabilities in satellite-based remote sensing. With this program, the UAE seeks to strengthen its position in the global space sector.

Space42, which is listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, was formed from the merger of two local companies, Bayanat and Yahsat. The company counts significant Abu Dhabi entities among its major shareholders, including G42, Mubadala, and the International Holding Company (IHC).

Last year, Space42 secured a substantial $5 billion contract from the UAE government. This 17-year agreement focuses on the production of new satellites, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing its space capabilities.

In October, the UAE government established the Supreme Space Council. This body is tasked with developing the nation’s space sector, overseeing public policies, and creating a framework for managing infrastructure, facilities, and assets related to the space industry.
