Global Leaders to Gather in Abu Dhabi for the Inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is set to host the inaugural Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) on May 5-6 at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort. This significant event is organized by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in strategic partnership with the UAE Public Prosecution and is under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The summit aims to shape future technology governance globally.

GETS 2025 arrives at a crucial time when the world is facing rapid advancements in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and Web3 technologies. The summit will gather over 500 leaders from government, industry, academia, and civil society to develop governance frameworks that balance innovation with the protection of societal rights, fostering inclusive dialogue and collaborative solutions.

His Excellency Faisal Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs and Secretary General of ATRC, stressed the importance of the summit, noting, “Innovation without ambitious governance lacks sustainability.” He highlighted that through GETS 2025, the UAE aims to demonstrate that technological leadership must go hand in hand with ethical and inclusive policies that advance global human progress.

Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney General, remarked on the necessity of creating a smart judicial system that safeguards rights and ensures justice in light of the technological surge. He stated that GETS 2025 provides an opportunity to reaffirm the UAE’s commitment to developing legislation and governance that supports societal advancement and upholds human dignity in the digital age.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping technological governance. He remarked that the future of technology governance should be shaped by those who understand its evolution, indicating that the summit aims to empower young individuals to engage in discussions that will lay the ethical foundations of the digital future.

The summit aligns with the UAE’s strategic investments exceeding AED 13 billion aimed at accelerating AI and digital economy initiatives, showcasing the country’s commitment to incorporating AI into legislation, procedures, and government services.

Prominent attendees include HE Faisal Al Bannai, HE Chancellor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, HE Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, and many others from various sectors. The event will feature over 50 experts discussing key topics such as AI governance, digital privacy and rights, cross-border enforcement, and cybersecurity in the post-quantum era.

GETS 2025 seeks to unify efforts across governments, academia, and the private sector to create ethical solutions that protect communities while promoting technological advancement in a rapidly changing world.
