The Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) is set to host its 15th Social Work Conference on May 14-15 at Al Qasimia University. The theme for this year’s conference is “Towards an aware and cohesive society.” This initiative aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who emphasizes the importance of social cohesion, stability, and public awareness.

Khawla Al Ali, the Director of Government Communication at SSSD, explained that the conference aims to share innovative insights to strengthen social policies. It will showcase successful experiences and practices that support community cohesion while promoting social awareness and addressing societal challenges. The event seeks to enhance cooperation among governmental, private, and civil sectors to foster social stability.
Key topics for discussion will include modern challenges such as poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, and discrimination. The forum will also highlight innovative solutions and policy development aimed at improving the quality of life. Additionally, the role of media in promoting social unity will be explored, alongside how advancing technology and artificial intelligence can influence the future of social services. The conference will propose initiatives to support vulnerable groups and achieve social justice.
Al Ali noted that the conference will serve as a platform for leading social work professionals and institutions from the Gulf region to exchange ideas and strategies for advancing the field. Attendees can expect six diverse papers and live presentations from institutions dedicated to social causes.
The conference will focus on nine key areas, which include the role of social observatories in developing proactive policies, social impact assessments, and community infrastructure development. It will also address leveraging social research in policymaking, integrating AI in social services, and global initiatives in social work. Furthermore, topics will cover strengthening mental health in families and communities, enabling family stability, and the media’s role in building social cohesion.
Al Ali confirmed that the conference will conclude with strategic recommendations based on the sessions and workshops. These recommendations will offer actionable proposals aimed at supporting policy development and reinforcing social stability and cohesion.
