The strategy includes 81 projects and initiatives organized into six key pillars: people happiness, seamless and innovative mobility, intelligent traffic management, cognitive licensing, future-proof organization, and asset excellence.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized that the strategy aligns with the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 and various local and federal initiatives. He noted that it aims to enhance human capital in AI applications and create a connected AI ecosystem that fosters resilience and innovation, positioning RTA at the forefront of AI transformation in its services and operations.

Al Tayer mentioned that the strategy sets out to establish a strong corporate governance framework for AI, while also boosting RTA’s technical capabilities in AI and data management. He highlighted the importance of big data and AI as essential components of digital transformation, crucial for improving operational efficiency and promoting data-driven decision-making across sectors.

The strategy is expected to yield significant outcomes, including a reduction in travel time by 20% to 30% through optimized traffic signal operations and intelligent pedestrian mobility solutions. It also aims for a 25% to 40% boost in productivity by providing employees with AI-driven tools and seeks to lower costs by 10% to 20% through AI-enhanced platforms for asset management and predictive maintenance.

Additionally, the strategy intends to improve customer happiness by 35% and increase partner compliance by 30% to 50%. RTA continues to lead in utilizing big data and artificial intelligence, having launched its Big Data Platform in 2017 and establishing a joint Big Data and AI Roadmap (2021-2025), followed by a dedicated AI Platform in 2022 for developing AI-driven applications.

Al Tayer explained that the Big Data Platform enables efficient data exchange across RTA’s corporate systems. Since its launch, the platform has experienced a 30% annual growth rate, with a total data capacity now exceeding 670 terabytes—equivalent to over 235 billion pages. It integrates with 49 corporate systems and supports more than 280 data points, facilitating connectivity across various data sources within RTA’s operations.

Since 2017, RTA has executed over 40 big data and AI use cases, including predictive maintenance for buses and sentiment analysis of passenger feedback. The authority is also exploring 45 additional use cases, such as optimizing water and electricity consumption in the Dubai Metro and enhancing the public bus network using advanced AI technologies.
