Dubai is advancing its digital transformation with the announcement of a new AED 2 billion hyperscale data centre. The project will be developed by telecom operator du, which is collaborating with Microsoft, the facility’s main tenant.

The data centre will be constructed in phases to address the increasing demand for cloud services and artificial intelligence capabilities. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s Crown Prince and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, announced the project during Dubai AI Week.
According to Government of Dubai Media Office, Sheikh Hamdan said that this centre is a significant investment in digital infrastructure and reinforces Dubai’s leadership in technology and innovation. He remarked that “data is the wealth of the future,” underscoring Dubai’s dedication to supporting companies that leverage technology for societal benefits.
The new data centre aligns with the Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence, which was launched in 2024. This blueprint aims to foster local AI talent, integrate AI into government services, and enhance the city’s data infrastructure.
Dubai AI Week is ongoing until April 25, showcasing events at prominent locations such as the Museum of the Future and Emirates Towers. The week features over 180 speakers and more than 140 interactive sessions presented by experts from around the globe.
