SRTI Park and Roche Diagnostics Middle East Partner for Healthcare Sustainability

Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park (SRTIP) has formed a partnership with Roche Diagnostics Middle East (RDME) to enhance sustainability and drive healthcare innovation in Sharjah. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at finding solutions that improve patient care at every stage.

Under the MoU, SRTIP and Roche Diagnostics have committed to collaborating on healthcare innovations that utilize biotechnology and digital health solutions. This partnership aims to enable personalized medicine and strengthen regional capabilities through initiatives like innovation hubs and joint accelerators, which will facilitate transformative healthcare solutions across various disease areas.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTIP, and Guido Sander, General Manager Middle East at Roche Diagnostics. The signing ceremony took place at the SRTIP and was attended by senior officials from both organizations.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi stated that SRTI Park is dedicated to creating cutting-edge solutions in healthcare, which is one of its core priorities. He emphasized that this collaboration aims to establish Sharjah as a global research and development hub for advanced industries, supported by an integrated ecosystem that will foster the transition to a sustainable, innovation-led knowledge economy.

The partnership also focuses on enhancing environmental sustainability in laboratory operations. This will involve implementing and advocating for sustainable lab certification standards based on global best practices, utilizing the United Nations Race to Zero campaign as a benchmark for achieving a zero-carbon future.

Guido Sander expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, recognizing it as an opportunity to develop sustainable healthcare models. He highlighted Roche’s significant sustainability achievements, including a 67% reduction in CO2 emissions since 2004, and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to achieving a 100% reduction in emissions by 2050.

This collaboration aims to create a learning and innovation ecosystem that will improve Sharjah’s healthcare system, making it more efficient and accessible. Roche Diagnostics will work alongside SRTIP to identify and pursue advancements in the healthcare sector while maintaining high standards of patient-centricity and sustainability.

Dr. Asma Mahmoud Fikri, Director of Government and Corporate Partnerships at SRTIP, remarked that this agreement lays the groundwork for a series of global initiatives in healthcare. She noted it is a step towards attracting more international partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies and healthcare institutions, ultimately strengthening Sharjah’s position as a destination for healthcare investment and advancing R&D infrastructure in the sector.
