Abu Dhabi has introduced a groundbreaking initiative with the opening of the UAE’s first dedicated beach area for visually impaired individuals and their families. Located along the Corniche near Gate 3, this 1 000-square-metre beach aims to provide a fully accessible environment, setting a new standard for inclusivity in public spaces.

The beach was launched in collaboration with the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination. This project is inspired by the 2025 Year of the Community and represents a strong commitment to equality, dignity, and shared responsibility. It is designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the beach experience.

Several features make this beach particularly accommodating for visually impaired visitors. Special transport services and clearly marked walkways have been established to ease navigation. Instructional boards with Braille provide swimming guidelines to promote independence, while a protected walking path includes guiding ropes and sound cues to help individuals reach the water safely. Additionally, a designated swim area is supervised by professional lifeguards, and Braille-friendly visitor guides are available to enhance the experience. On-site security and medical support, including a qualified nurse, are present at all times.

The World Disability Union has recognized the beach as a “Disability-Friendly Beach,” further highlighting its commitment to inclusivity.

Visitors can enjoy several perks at this beach. People of Determination and one guest have free access, and there are floating beach chairs, accessible pathways, and designated restrooms that meet all accessibility standards. The beach also features free water stations, a complimentary transport service to and from the beach, and reserved parking spaces near the entrance.

Open daily from 6 am to midnight, with swimming allowed until sunset, the beach offers flexibility for visitors to enjoy their time at their own pace. This initiative exemplifies how communities can prioritize accessibility and create inclusive spaces for all, with Abu Dhabi leading the way.
