The report presents a detailed framework and roadmap for the integration of genomics into Abu Dhabi’s healthcare systems. It emphasizes how genomics can revolutionize health care by offering personalized treatment plans tailored to individual genetic profiles. Under the theme “Towards longevity: Redefined health and wellbeing,” the report positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in precision medicine and longevity-focused healthcare.

According to Dr. Asma Ibrahim Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the Health Life Science Sector at DoH, the report serves as a call to action. She stated, “In a fast-evolving field like genomics, agility and foresight are essential to ensure policies strike a balance between safety, innovation, and the constant flow of emerging evidence.” The framework outlined in the report is built around three strategic pillars: enabling technology, policy and governance, and talent development, all aimed at creating a resilient genomics ecosystem.

Sumit Sharma, Partner and Head of Health and Life Sciences for India, Middle East & Africa at Oliver Wyman, added that Abu Dhabi’s commitment to genomics marks a transformative step toward precision medicine. He noted that this initiative not only positions the Emirate as a leader in longevity and data-driven medical care but also holds the promise of significant economic growth and societal benefits.

The report highlights that by mapping genetic and epigenetic risk factors and applying precision therapies, chronic illnesses such as diabetes and cardiovascular disorders could be reduced by 20-30% at the population level. This is supported by Abu Dhabi’s robust digital infrastructure and a tech-savvy populace, along with the Emirate Genome Program, which has already sequenced 800 000 genomes, laying a strong foundation for this transformation.
