During the talks, they explored various opportunities to promote investment in the energy sector, as reported by the national news agency Wam. Sheikh Mohamed underscored the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the United States.

According to The National, Chris Wright, on his first official international trip to the UAE, characterized the bilateral relations as experiencing “rapid growth” in investment and joint cooperation. His regional trip, which includes visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, aims to bolster ties with key geostrategic and energy allies.

Wright praised the UAE for being an early adopter of artificial intelligence, noting significant advancements in integrating AI into the UAE’s energy systems. He expressed enthusiasm about the potential for AI to propel the next phase of energy demand, especially for natural gas and electricity, thereby opening avenues for more strategic partnerships between the two countries.

In the context of recent US trade policies, Wright addressed President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on several countries, which were later retracted. He explained that these measures are intended to “achieve balance in global trade and revitalize the country’s manufacturing sector.” He pointed out that while the US has historically welcomed imports, many trading partners have not reciprocated with similar openness towards American exports.

Wright highlighted that the US administration is focused on achieving reciprocity in trade and stimulating domestic industries through tariffs. He assured that these policies would contribute to fostering economic growth both in the United States and globally, despite the potential challenges during the transition period. A baseline tariff of 10% on imports from the UAE and several other countries in the region was introduced on April 5.
