ACI Conference in Dubai Highlights Green Concrete and Construction Innovations

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) recently held an international conference in Dubai that focused on green concrete and advancements in construction technology. Over 300 experts and researchers from 14 countries attended the two-day event, which emphasized sustainability in the concrete and construction sectors.

The conference featured participation from various stakeholders including government representatives, university students, and academics from institutions across the UAE, such as the University of Sharjah and the American University of Dubai. Students showcased innovative research and projects centered on green concrete, demonstrating the commitment of academic institutions to apply the latest environmental standards in engineering.

Prominent speakers included Prof. Mufid Samarai, who delivered a lecture titled “Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and ACI 562: The Future of Concrete Technology in Assessment and Repair.” His presentation explored how artificial intelligence can enhance techniques for assessing and repairing concrete structures, highlighting the necessity of integrating modern technology to ensure the sustainability of buildings and infrastructure.

ACI President Michael Paul noted the importance of the conference as a platform for idea exchange and collaboration across various sectors. He also praised Dubai Municipality for its efforts in promoting sustainability within the construction industry.

The conference concluded with several key recommendations aimed at promoting the use of low-carbon concrete and implementing sustainable construction standards. Participants stressed the need for investment in construction waste recycling technologies and the use of fiber-reinforced materials to enhance the durability of concrete structures. Furthermore, discussions highlighted the importance of developing innovative solutions to reduce the carbon footprint of construction, such as utilizing alternative materials in cement production and improving maintenance efficiency through artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The recommendations underscored the significance of strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to support applied research and innovative practices in sustainable construction.
