The collaboration will streamline access to world-class medical services, not only for international travelers but also for Etihad Airways employees and their families. This initiative comes at a time when the UAE’s medical tourism sector is rapidly growing; wellness tourists spent approximately $5.4 billion in the UAE in 2022, a significant increase from $2.1 billion in 2020, according to the Global Wellness Economy Monitor. Furthermore, a survey by Alpen Capital projects that health spending in the UAE will reach $30.7 billion by 2027, marking the fastest growth rate in the GCC region.

Dr. Muntaser Husein, the director of health and wellbeing at Etihad Airways, emphasized that the collaboration would improve medical services for international travelers seeking specialized treatment in Abu Dhabi. He noted the partnership allows for exceptional medical care through access to advanced healthcare services in the region.

The agreement establishes referral pathways for international patients, enabling direct case management and clinician access. By merging Burjeel’s medical expertise with Etihad Airways’ global reach, the collaboration supports Abu Dhabi’s goal of attracting more medical tourists while ensuring seamless healthcare coverage for the airline’s workforce and their families.

Dr. Mohammad Qaddoura, COO of Burjeel Holdings for Abu Dhabi and Oman, stated that their partnership with Etihad Airways strengthens the commitment to making Abu Dhabi a premier medical tourism destination. He highlighted the goal of providing seamless access to world-class healthcare for both travelers and residents.

The agreement also includes the introduction of health awareness programs and wellness lectures for Etihad Airways employees, ensuring priority access to medical services. Qaddoura added that integrating Burjeel Holdings’ healthcare expertise with Etihad’s extensive network creates a streamlined system for medical access, high-quality treatment, and a superior patient experience.

The partnership builds on Burjeel Holdings’ ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility in the UAE. In the previous year, Burjeel launched the 24/7 Burjeel Airport Clinic at Zayed International Airport, which offers round-the-clock medical support to travelers, airport staff, and international patients requiring specialized care.
