Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced the conversion of public transport’s bus Route No.65 into an eco-friendly service. This initiative was revealed on Saturday, March 15, and signifies a commitment to sustainability in the emirate, according to Khaleej Times.

The new green buses will be powered by advanced technologies, including hydrogen and electric energy. This transformation is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of Abu Dhabi’s public transport system and cutting carbon emissions. Abu Dhabi Mobility has set a target to make the city a Public Transport Green Zone by the year 2030.
The ambitious plan includes a goal to decarbonize 50 percent of the city’s public transport operations. By achieving this, Abu Dhabi Mobility expects to reduce carbon emissions by 200 tonnes daily, which is comparable to removing 14,700 cars from the roads. This move reflects the organization’s ongoing dedication to promoting sustainable environmental practices in the region.
Bus Route No.65 is crucial as it connects Marina Mall to Al Reem Island and accommodates approximately 6,000 passengers each day. The route covers more than 2,000 kilometers daily, underscoring the need for comfortable and environmentally friendly transport solutions for such a large passenger volume.
In addition to Route No.65, Abu Dhabi Mobility is expanding the use of green buses to other routes, including Route 160, which connects Capital Park with Khalifa City, and Route A2, linking Abu Dhabi City to Zayed International Airport. These routes are part of an innovative transport strategy designed to enhance the public transportation experience in the city.
The newly introduced green buses utilize advanced battery technologies and hydrogen fuel cells, ensuring zero-emission operations. This technological shift aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and operational energy consumption in Abu Dhabi’s public transport system.
