A survey conducted by Road Safety UAE highlights that male motorists over 40 years old are particularly vulnerable during Ramadan. According to the survey, peak accident times occur between 10 AM and 11 AM, with Tuesdays identified as the most dangerous days for travel, while Sundays are the least hazardous.

Road Safety UAE emphasizes that fasting can lead to dehydration and low blood sugar, impairing attentiveness, concentration, vision, and reaction time. The organization also notes that unusual meal timings and disrupted sleep patterns during Ramadan can contribute to fatigue and distraction among drivers. The period surrounding sunset is especially risky, as many rush to their iftar gatherings.

To promote safe driving during Ramadan, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has shared several recommendations. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys to reduce stress, as rushing can lead to accidents. It is also suggested to avoid driving immediately after consuming a heavy meal, which may induce drowsiness.

Additionally, drivers should maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front of them and practice patience on the roads. The RTA warns against sleeping in cars with closed windows, as this poses a suffocation risk. For those who find managing stress challenging while fasting, utilizing public transport might be a safer alternative.

Staying safe on the roads during this busy month is crucial for everyone.
