Dubai has announced significant improvements to its 2-year employment visa process, making it more efficient and fully digital. The changes, spearheaded by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), include AI-powered renewals, expanded eligibility for the Golden Visa, and streamlined entry procedures specifically for Indian nationals.

The revamped employment visa process aims to facilitate a quicker transition for expatriates looking to work in Dubai. It is essential for those working under the sponsorship of a UAE-based employer, granting them legal residency, access to key services such as banking and healthcare, and the ability to sponsor their family members.
For applicants, the process includes several steps starting with a confirmed job offer from a UAE-registered employer, followed by the employer securing a work permit from MOHRE. Once the work permit is approved, applicants receive an Entry Permit valid for 60 days, after which they must undergo a medical examination and apply for the Emirates ID. Finally, upon completing all necessary procedures, the GDRFA stamps the employment visa on their passport, granting legal residency.
Key updates for 2025 feature the AI-powered ‘Salama’ system, which automates visa renewals and significantly reduces processing times. Additionally, professionals in sectors such as education, healthcare, sustainability, and digital content can now qualify for a 10-year Golden Visa. Most visa services have also transitioned to a fully online format, minimizing paperwork and the necessity for in-person visits.
Moreover, Indian nationals who meet specific criteria can now obtain a visa on arrival, simplifying their entry into the UAE. New family sponsorship rules have also been introduced, allowing expatriates earning over AED 4,000 per month to sponsor not only their spouses and children but also their parents, enhancing family reunification opportunities.
To qualify for the Dubai 2-Year Employment Visa, applicants must have a confirmed job offer, relevant educational or professional certificates if required, a health clearance from an approved facility in the UAE, and a work permit approval from MOHRE.
