The UAE authorities are set to utilize cutting-edge digital technology to identify counterfeit products and enhance cross-border cooperation in the fight against fraud. This initiative includes implementing AI-driven enforcement mechanisms to tackle the evolving threats posed by global trade.

These developments were discussed at a recent forum focused on consumer rights and the expansion of national industries, organized by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The forum produced several key recommendations aimed at improving the market system, including tightening administrative sanctions against commercial fraud violators and establishing advanced quality control centers to ensure product authenticity.
In addition, the forum advocated for the increased use of digital solutions for real-time monitoring of supply chains and suggested launching public awareness campaigns to help consumers better identify counterfeit goods. The discussions also emphasized critical national legislation, particularly Federal Decree-Law No. (42) of 2023 on Combating Commercial Fraud and Federal Law No. (15) of 2020 on Consumer Protection, which form the legal backbone for promoting sustainable development and ensuring fair market practices.
A statement made during the forum highlighted that commercial fraud and counterfeit goods pose serious threats to the national economy and consumer safety. Such fraudulent activities infringe on intellectual property rights, impacting both individuals and businesses.
Different types of commercial fraud were identified, including fraud related to product identity, where the nature or source of the product is altered; fraud in quantity, involving manipulation of weight or size; and attempts to sell or possess counterfeit goods with the intent to trade.
