According to a statement from AD Ports Group, Pakistan is integral to the Group’s strategic growth priorities in Central Asia, serving as the maritime gateway of the “Middle Corridor” that connects Asia and Europe. The UAE-based company already has significant maritime and logistics interests in Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, making the proposed industrial zone in Pakistan a pivotal expansion of its operations in the region.

The redevelopment of the Port of Karachi, which is the country’s main port, is expected to establish a cost-efficient maritime sea route with direct overland connections into Central Asia. AD Ports Group’s involvement in Pakistan began in 2023 when it secured a 50-year concession with joint venture partner Kaheel Terminals to manage five container terminal berths on the East Wharf of the Port of Karachi.

In addition to this, the two companies also obtained a 25-year concession to operate seven general and bulk cargo berths at the same location. Last year, AD Ports Group expanded its maritime shipping services to Pakistan, which attracted new clients and increased trade opportunities.

Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, emphasized their commitment to facilitating trade for the UAE and its partners worldwide. He noted that their expertise and integrated business offerings are geared towards enhancing trade efficiency in Central Asia, particularly in Pakistan.

Beyond the industrial zone initiative, AD Ports Group plans to develop “end-to-end logistics solutions” encompassing air, ocean, and inland transport, including warehousing and distribution. This effort is expected to significantly improve Pakistan’s inland trade corridors into Central Asia.
