A new study shows that Dubai Internet City has had a big effect on the city’s income over the past 15 years, adding AED 100 billion to the city’s GDP. This conclusion comes from an impact study that was done with Accenture and included opinions from several top leaders in the ICT (information and communications technology) field.

The Dubai Internet City – Impact Assessment study shows how this tech hub, which is owned by TECOM Group PJSC, has changed the digital economy since it opened in 1999. Right now, 65% of Dubai’s GDP comes from the technology sector. This is in line with the city’s strategic goals set out in the Dubai Economic Agenda “D33.” Executive Vice President of Commercial at TECOM Group and Managing Director of Dubai Internet City, Ammar Al Malik, talked about how important the area is for driving digital growth and innovation in the region.
The study also says that Dubai Internet City has helped create more than 125,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, and has spent AED 1.6 billion on training and developing talent.
The plan, which was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on October 29, 1999, was meant to improve Dubai’s knowledge economy. In addition, the study talks about how the hub has helped over 150 different nationalities work together, especially technology and artificial intelligence (AI) companies. The area offers a lot of operational support, such as access to more than 200 smart services from businesses and the government that make running a business easier.
In Dubai Internet City, women make up more than 25% of the workforce, and since 2021, the number of women-led startups in the TECOM Group’s in5 incubator has doubled. Over the years, startups in the district have raised a total of 8 billion AED in capital. Careem and Souq are two of the most successful ones.
For 25 years, Dubai Internet City has helped the digital economy grow. Since 2021, it has hosted more than 800 events to encourage people to share information and learn new skills. Oracle, SAP, Dell, Amazon, Google, and other world leaders in their fields have set up shop in the area. Companies like 3M and IBM also have Innovation and Research and Development (R&D) Centers there.
