Manoa Kamikamica, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, described the signing of this “groundbreaking MoU” as the beginning of a new era for collaboration between the UAE and Fiji, particularly through private sector involvement. He expressed optimism about the potential for increased investment and trade opportunities arising from the formation of the UAE-Fiji Joint Business Council (UFJBC) in the coming years.

Kamal Chetty, CEO of Investment Fiji, highlighted that the MoU and the establishment of the UFJBC would significantly strengthen the economic ties between Fiji and the UAE. He noted that this partnership would create new opportunities for Fijian businesses to enter the UAE market and attract vital investments back to Fiji.

Edward Bernard, CEO of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF), added that the UFJBC would facilitate private sector-led initiatives related to trade, investment, and services across key industrial sectors in both countries. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with the Government and Investment Fiji through the UFJBC to build a relationship that fosters growth and prosperity for both nations.

Bernard also acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Trade, Investment Fiji, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Fijian mission in the UAE for their role in facilitating discussions and the signing of the MoU.

The MoU was formally signed by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation and the Federation of United Arab Emirates Chambers of Commerce and Industry during the World Government Summit (WGS) held in Dubai. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Kamikamica, UAE Minister of State for Entrepreneurship Alia Al Mazroei, and Fiji’s ambassador to the UAE, Faizal Koya.
