UAE and Japan Near Completion of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Negotiations

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade, announced that negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Japan are set to be completed by the end of 2025.

In his statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi emphasized that the terms of the agreement showcase the dedication of both nations to enhancing economic cooperation. He noted that this partnership aims to open new avenues for development, ultimately contributing to economic prosperity and generating additional opportunities for business communities in both countries.

Highlighting the significance of their trade relationship, Dr. Al Zeyoudi mentioned that the UAE stands as Japan’s primary trade partner in the Arab World regarding exports and imports, representing approximately 37% of Japan’s total exports to Arab nations. Furthermore, he pointed out that Japan ranks among the UAE’s top ten trading partners.

The discussions for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement began in September 2024, with both countries aiming to unlock new opportunities for economic, investment, and trade relations. This initiative seeks to elevate their developmental cooperation to new heights.
